Web-based Resources & Learning Activities

Web-based Resources & Learning Activities

While there are several virtual learning websites at our fingertips. I chose the following three sites to visit and explore. Each location provides different content areas to enrich a virtual learning experience.

The first site  https://artsandculture.google.com/   Google Arts & Culture, is a non-profit site. The work with cultural institutions and artists worldwide to bring the world Art and Culture at your fingertips for a virtual learning experience. Google Arts & Culture also offers virtual field trips.

https://artsandculture.google.com/project/expeditions

This site gives virtual tours.

I chose to take a virtual tour through history :

I clicked on the tab for Natural History and took a tour with the gone but not forgotten DINOSAURS!

Expedition #1:
This expedition consisted of a virtual tour about, Lost Creatures, Fossils, Meet the Dinosaurs, and Extinction.  The panoramic images of all things dinosaurs were on display, and what a real-life experience it is.  Each picture was paired with facts about each dinosaur. This virtual field trip would be a great learning experience for all ages, and what a great way to bring in the knowledge of this era to the mids of who are always so curious to know everything.

Expedition #2:
This expedition consisted of taking a tour under the deep blue sea and taking a virtual swim with the ocean's ferocious predator: The Shark. This expedition consisted of amazing photographs along with factual information about each type of shark. This would be a great way to begin an Ocean themed unit.

Make waves

Go underwater and find out what goes on below the surface

We have it all, from the White Tip Reef Sharks of the Philippines to the Great White Sharks of Port Lincoln, Australia. Join us on this expedition to learn about all kinds of sharks and their natural habitats.

Rocio, during October, offer several virtual  Halloween learning experiences

7 Terrifying Tales

This is a virtual tour of England's most haunted historic buildings and monuments.
I found this very spook-fabulous! For all those curious minds that like the haunting vibe.

This experience would be a great way to bring creative writing into play in the classroom.

How to Become Connected Educator

Things you should KNOW!!!

Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)

What is an AUP-  An Acceptable use policy (AUP) is a document stating  contraints and practices that a user must agree to for access to a corporate network or the Internet.

An acceptable use policy for the district (AUP) is a policy that outlines, in writing, how a school ordistrict expects its community members to behave with technology.

This is the AUP employee agreement for the school district I am employeed for:

EMPLOYEE AGREEMENT FOR ACCEPTABLE USE OF THE ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM You are being given access to the District’s electronic communications system. Through this system, you will be able to communicate with other schools, colleges, organizations, and people around the world through the Internet and other electronic information systems/networks. You will have access to hundreds of databases, libraries, and computer services all over the world. With this opportunity comes responsibility. It is important that you read the District policy, administrative regulations, and agreement form and ask questions if you need help in understanding them. Inappropriate system use will result in the loss of the privilege of using this educational and administrative tool. Please note that the Internet is a network of many types of communication and information networks. It is possible that you may run across some material you might find objectionable. While the District will take reasonable steps to restrict access to such material, it is not possible to absolutely prevent such access. It will be your responsibility to follow the rules for appropriate use. RULES FOR APPROPRIATE USE • The account is to be used only for education purposes. • You will be held responsible at all times for the proper use of your account, and the District may suspend or revoke your access if you violate the rules. • Remember that people who receive e-mail from you with a school address might think your message represents the school’s point of view. INAPPROPRIATE USES • Using the system for an illegal purpose. • Borrowing someone’s account without permission. • Downloading or using copyrighted information without permission from the copyright holder. • Posting messages or accessing materials that are abusive, obscene, sexually oriented, threatening, harassing, damaging to another’s reputation, or illegal. • Wasting school resources through improper use of the computer system. • Gaining unauthorized access to restricted information or resources. CONSEQUENCES OF INAPPROPRIATE USE • Suspension of access to the system; • Revocation of the computer system account; or • Other disciplinary or legal action, in accordance with the District policies and applicable laws. I understand that my computer use is not private and that the District may monitor my activity on the computer system. I have read the District’s electronic communications system policy and administrative regulations and agree to abide by their provisions. In consideration for the privilege of using the District’s electronic communications system and in consideration for having access to the public networks, I hereby release the District, it’s operators, and any institutions which they are affiliated from any and all claims and damages of any nature arising from my use of, or inability to use, the system, including, without limitation, they type of damages identified in the District’s policy and administrative regulations. What is a DIGITAL CITIZEN?

Digital Citizenship is a concept that helps us to  understand what all technoogy users should know to use technology apprporiatly and responsibly.

Things to remember:

When becoming and educator you have to keep in mind that your personal life on social media can be a problem when posting pictures, comments and beliefs such as, your politacal, and religion.

Communicate with parents in a seperate social media domain. For my classroom social communication with parents I chose Classroom DoJo.  This domain is only for my district adminitrators and parents.

This also goes with your students in the classroom, as the teacher it is your responsibility to make sure your students are staying safe online.  In my classroom I want to be a good digital role model for my students.

#EDTECH-  I searched this hashtag on Twitter and  my findings is this is a combination of education and technology that refers to the hardware and software designed to enhance teacher-kled learning in classroomms and a tool to improve srudents' education outcomes.

Is technology taking over the classroom?
 Neil Mosley
https://www.neilmosley.com/about

Wendy, is a third grade teacher and she has concerns as most teachers do now days with how technology is taking over the classroom.

I believe that Twitter is a useful tool for educators if you have the time to actually sit down and learn how to navigate it properly. I myself have not been apart of the Twitter world until now. So, personally I have no clue what I am doing. I do see where some educators use this for a resource tool in their classroom and to gain more knowledge for themselves as educators in the technology world.

TCEA :  According to their website tcea.org, (Texas Computer Education Association), is a                     global nonprofit, member-based organization that supports educators i the field                        who are enhancing learing with didgital tools.

I found this post on Twitter from TCEA that I found interesting about classroom management:

Sometimes, the teachers bring on more stress to themselves when it comes to classroom management. We just think that all students should just do as we say. It is our responsibility to set in stone the classroomm expectations and follow through with them from the very beginning,

I believe that becoming a memeber to an organizant such as, TCEA would be beneficial to educators.  You would recieve useful advice to benefit your classrooms learning experience and gain more knowleged as an educator.
